The Big Gun was a Parrot 30-Pound rifled cannon. Over eleven feet long, it weighed almost nine thousand pounds and could hurl a 4.2 inch shell more than two miles. Despite its great size and weight, the Yankees were moving the Big Gun from place to place across the Arkansas battle-front. No Confederate field artillery piece could match its range.
