An Anthology: Astounding Stories & LO!
For those familiar with Fortean text, may have the impression that Charles Fort was just a self publishing author. However, Fort was not just limited to this, and one of the first publication of Lo! was in the pulp magazine Astounding Stories. Seems that Charles Fort wrote a series of articles on this book to started a campaign to promote Lo! Lo! was the third published nonfiction work of the author Charles Fort (first edition 1931). In it he details a wide range of unusual phenomena. In the final chapter of the book he proposes a new cosmology that the earth is stationary in space and surrounded by a solid shell. This book is an authentic reproduction of the original printed text in shades of gray and may contain minor errors. Despite the fact that we have attempted to accurately maintain the integrity of the original work, the present reproduction may have minor errors beyond our control like: missing and blurred pages, poor pictures and markings. Correspondance, 1932-1960
As a philosophy teacher, mentor, and friend, Jean Grenier (18981971) had an enormous influence on the young Albert Camus (19131960), who, in fact, acknowledged that Greniers Les Iles had touched the very core of his sensibility and provided him with both a terrain for reflection, and a format that he would later use for his own essays. Their correspondence, beginning when the seventeen-year-old Camus was Greniers student at the Grand Lycée of Algiers, documents the younger mans struggle to become a writer and find his own voice, a period in which he turned frequently to his mentor for advice, comfort, and direction. The letters cover a period of almost thirty years, from 1932 to Camuss untimely death in 1960. Because Camus destroyed the earlier correspondence he received, the first twenty-six letters in the volume are his only; the full begins in 1940. These enlightening letters offer invaluable glimpses into the development of Camuss aesthetic ideas, literary production, and political stance. In contrast to the correspondence of Grenier, who throughout remains somewhat reticent about his life and doubtful about himself and his works, Camuss letters are a window into his most profound thoughts and sensitivities, delving deeply into his psyche and, at times, revealing a side of the writer unfamiliar to us. Undoubtedly they allow us a better understanding of Albert Camus, the man and the artist.

Eric Siepmann was her second husband and between 1944 and 1967 and their correspondence - lively, intimate, passionate, frustrated - charted their life together (and apart) with unusual candour and spirit. Marnham suggests that through these letters Mary, who famously blossomed as a novelist in her seventies, a decade after Eric's death, found her voice. Bequeathed to Marnham in two size 5 shoe boxes, this is one of the great surviving post-war correspondences.

He had just published his first book of essays, Earth House Hold. A few years before, after a long absence, Wendell Berry left New York City to return to land near his grandfather's farm in Port Royal, Kentucky, where he built a small studio and lived there with his wife as they restored an old house on their newly acquired homestead. In 1969 Berry had just published Long–Legged House. These two founding members of the counterculture and of the new environmental movement had yet to meet, but they knew each other's work, and soon they began a correspondence. Neither man could have imagined the impact their work would have on American political and literary culture, nor could they have appreciated the impact they would have on one another. Snyder had thrown over all vestiges of Christianity in favor of becoming a devoted Buddhist and Zen practitioner, and had lived in Japan for a prolonged period to develop this practice. Berry's discomfort with the Christianity of his native land caused him to become something of a renegade Christian, troubled by the church and organized religion, but grounded in its vocabulary and its narrative. Religion and spirituality seemed like a natural topic for the two men to discuss, and discuss they did. They exchanged more than 240 letters from 1973 to 2013, remarkable letters of insight and argument.
