Seventeen-year-old Brenden is happily on his way to San Diego for a short summer vacation. Stopping to use the restroom in a small town changes his life forever when everything familiar disappears and he finds himself in L.O.S.T.-one of many witch villages from different times (ranging from medieval to modern) magically disconnected from the rest of the world. The golden-eyed teenage girl responsible for taking Brenden to this land of witches, hags, and sirens is Jazz, Queen of the Witches. She recognizes an inner power in Brenden that could save her people. Throughout their adventures, Jazz and Brenden share an irresistible attraction, yet they must devote their strength to defeating Nire, an ancient evil threatening both of their worlds.
The Shadowmaster has been defeated and the witch sanctuaries are safe for now. But the effort has cost Jazz her life. Trapped in Talamadden, the land of the dead, the former Queen of the Witches is lost in a dark limbo until a spirit guide revives her memories. Desperate to reunite with Bren, she wrestles menacing harpies and shadows to find a way back to the living. Meanwhile, Bren has become King of the Witches and is now in charge of the witch villages. But he abandons them to search for Jazz, his true love, despite the fact that crossing over to Talamadden would surely kill him. Will Bren and Jazz join up once again to fight evil forces intent on destroying the witches? Or will Bren's impulsive departure leave the witch villages vulnerable to the shadows?
When a shapeshifting dwarf kidnaps Todd, Bren, King of the Witches, becomes obsessed with rescuing him, but has no idea where to begin. Bren's also plagued by disturbing visions about the evil Nire escaping from her prison. Meanwhile, girls with special abilities are showing up randomly with magical stones, the klatch witches are attacking the peaceful Dana'Kel priests, and Jazz is having haunting nightmares. It's obvious something dreadful has descended upon L.O.S.T., but what? Soon after, minor quarrels escalate into riots and bloodshed. Even the King and Queen are drawn into a passionate dispute when Jazz accuses Bren of kissing a young woman. Can the witches and magical creatures ever unite together before utter chaos tears apart the witch kingdom?
