RICHARD MATHESON: COLLECTED STORIES, VOLUME ONE is an expanded tradepaperback version of the 1989 Dream/Press hardcover limited edition. We will be publishing it in 3 volumes, the first in 2003 and one each year following. RICHARD MATHESON: COLLECTED STORIES is the gathering together of 86 Richard Matheson short stories, beginning with Born of Man and Woman from 1950 and ending with Duel from 1971. The stories were arranged by Matheson himself roughly in chronological order of original publication. There are also several tributes to Richard Matheson throughout the volumes from admirers such as Stephen King, Ray Bradbury, Robert Bloch, William F. Nolan, and others. Finally, Matheson wrote a deeply revealing Introduction for the collection. As Matheson himself states in this Introduction, "A twenty-year period of creativity reduced to the psychological background of my output of fantasy and science-fiction stories. If this were a thesis, that would be my premise". For the Volume One, editor Stanley Wiater has included: > A "bibliophile" at the end of each story containing Matheson's very own commentary on the behind-the-scenes details of each story. Each story is also listed with it's original publication date and place of publication. > A brand new introduction written expressly for this version of the book Each subsequent volume of RICHARD MATHESON: COLLECTED STORIES that we publish will include the Matheson bibliophiles with each story.
A collection of short stories about the Old West features the tale of the blind lawman who sharpens his other senses to face a killer, a boy who thinks he can outshoot the fastest gunman in town, and other tales. Original.
Apart from Rod Serling, screenwriter Richard Matheson wrote more teleplays for the cult classic The Twilight Zone than any other writer. Many of these episodes became the series' most acclaimed and most frequently aired. Published here for the first time are eight original scripts. Each is preceded by an introduction and commentary that lends insight into Matheson's creative process, how he felt about the adaptation of his scripts, and his relationship with Rod Serling. Information about the fate of two "lost" scripts and suggestions for further reading and viewing are also included. Volume Two includes the final six complete Twilight Zone scripts Matheson wrote for the show.
Reproductions of typewritten scripts, with introductions, photos, drawings, cast and credit for the two produced scripts.

What if every time you pushed a button you received $50,000...but someone you didn't know died? Would you still push the button? How many times? RICHARD MATHESON'S SCRIPTS FOR "THE PIT AND THE PENDULUM" AND "THE FALL OF THE HOUSE OF USHER" -- EDGAR ALLAN ADAPTIONS FILMED BY ROGER CORMAN
Three versions of Richard Matheson's classic novel I AM LEGEND have been filmed, but NONE have faithfully captured Matheson's novel. Matheson himself wrote a script for I AM LEGEND which was purchased by Hammer Films. Sadly, the US and British Censor Boards demanded changes both Matheson and the filmmaker refused to make. For the first time the reader can see Matheson's vision for his novel, far different than any of the film adaptations. Two other unproduced scripts fill out the 525-page book -- "The Distributor" and "Sweethearts and Horrors." Mark Dawidziak edited the "I Am Legend" section with his insightful analysis. Includes an afterword by R.C. Matheson.

Imagine a future in which the sport of boxing has gone high-tech. Human boxers have been replaced by massive humanoid robots. And former champions of flesh-and-blood are obsolete . . . . Richard Matheson's classic short story is now the basis for Real Steel , a gritty, white-knuckle film starring Hugh Jackman. But "Steel," which was previously filmed as a powerful episode of the original Twilight Zone television series, is just one of over a dozen unforgettable tales in this outstanding collection, which includes two new stories that have never appeared in any previous Matheson collection. Also featured is a bizarre satirical fantasy, "The Splendid Source," that was turned into an episode of The Family Guy. Richard Matheson was recently inducted into the Science Fiction Hall of Fame. Steel demonstrates once again the full range of his legendary imagination.
Acclaimed novelist/Eisner-winning graphic novelist Joe Hill collaborated with his father, Stephen King, in Throttle, for the first time on a tale that paid tribute to Richard Matheson's classic tale, Duel. Now, IDW is proud to present comic-book tellings of both stories in Road Rage, adapted by Chris Ryall with art by Nelson Daniel and Rafa Garres.
