Cover for In Pursuit of Spenser

When Robert B. Parker passed in early 2010, the world lost two great men: Parker himself, iconic American crime writer whose books have sold more than 6 million copies worldwide, and his best-known creation, Spenser. Parker's Spenser series not only influenced the work of countless of today's writers, but is also credited with reviving and forever changing the genre. In Pursuit of Spenser offers a look at Parker and to Spenser through the eyes of the writers he influenced. Editor Otto Penzler-- proprietor of one of the oldest and largest mystery specialist bookstores in the country, New York's The Mysterious Bookshop, and renowned mystery fiction editor whose credits include series editor for the Best American Crime Writing and Best American Mystery Stories, among many others (and about whom Parker himself once wrote, "Otto Penzler knows more about crime fiction than most people know about anything")-- collects some of today's bestselling mystery authors to discuss Parker, his characters, the series, and their impact on the world. From Hawk to Susan Silverman to Jesse Stone and Sunny Randall, from the series' Boston milieu to Parker's own take on his character, In Pursuit of Spenser pays tribute to Spenser, and Parker, with affection, humor, and a deep appreciation for what both have left behind.

Cover for Silent Night, Deadly Night

Ah, the Christmas season. The scent of roasting chestnuts fills the air, turkeys cook in every oven, and mistletoe hangs quietly above the doors. But beneath this cheerful Yuletide veneer, a seedier reality lurks, as a criminal element continues to ply its dastardly trade in secret, disguised by the joyous songs of carolers young and old... At least, that's the case in the pages of this volume, in which some of crime fiction's biggest names offer a playful take on the holiday's most beloved melodies, including such soon-to-be classics as "Arrested Merry Gentleman," "How Come You're Not Faithful," and "I Saw Mommy Killing Santa Claus." Contributors include: Donna Andrews, Rhys Bowen, Ken Bruen, Reed Farrel Coleman, Max Allan Collins, Thomas H. Cook, Jeffery Deaver, Harlan Ellison, Loren D. Estleman, Jane Haddam, Stuart M. Kaminsky, Andrew Klavan, Peter Lovesey, John Lutz, Katherine Hall Page, Ridley Pearson, Thomas Perry, Nancy Pickard, S.J. Rozan, Charles Todd, Joseph Wambaugh, and Donald E. Proudly represented by Crystal Lake Publishing—Tales from the Darkest Depths. Interview with the publisher/editor: What makes this horror anthology so special? Joe Mynhardt: It’s based on a classic film, and written from the perspective of professional authors who grew up watching this movie. Its locations vary from the New York scenes used in the movie (including those claustrophobic tunnels) to the countryside and even aboard a ship off the coast of England. Tell us more about the CHUD movie and how you got involved. Joe: It's a genre-defying cult classic film from the 80s with monsters living in the sewers of New York. This book has elements of horror, action, science fiction, and some pretty awesome gunfights. Eric S. Brown came up with the idea and approached the producer. After a long phone call to Andrew Bonime, we got the green light. We even received some amazing behind-the-scenes photos, which you’ll be able to access through an eBook copy of this book. Why should readers give this 80s monster movie tribute anthology a try? Joe: I don’t think I’ve ever read a horror anthology with so much action. It was a fun horror movie and now it’s also a fun read by some great authors. A classic horror movie now accompanied by a classic anthology.
