Description

Seven short historical crime fiction stories of murder, mystery and mirth, featuring Detective Inspector Carlton, set against the backdrop of the First World War to commemorate 100 years since the inception of Carlisle's State Management experiment when the government nationalised our pubs in an effort to curb disorder caused to some extent by the over imbibing of ‘demon drink’ by workers from the nearby munitions factory at Gretna (who were concocting the ‘devil’s porridge’ of nitro-glycerine and gun-cotton).
