Garis (1873-1954) through signed releases on file in the Stratemeyer Syndicate Records Collection at New York Public Library. Lilian was the wife of Howard R. Garis, the Syndicate's most prolific ghostwriter. She was a newspaper reporter for the Newark Evening News and author of many books under her own name, mostly after her Syndicate work.

But even in their wildest guesses, they never hit upon a ferryboat - a real little ferryboat that belonged to Mr. Bobbsey's friend, Homer Wiggins. Since he no longer needed it, he gave it to the Bobbsey twins. What fun they had painting the deck and organizing excursions to the island.
