What’s that saying? What can go wrong will go wrong? I think that should be the saying for my life. I’m Pippa Chase. I was about to become Pippa Snothead, but then my fiancé cheated on me, and I called off the wedding… I’m heartbroken, but at least I avoided a horrible last name. And now, I’m on my way to Paradise Valley, Montana, to lick my wounds and figure out what’s next in my life. I’m going to live with my childhood best friend, TJ Wyatt, on a ranch he bought. Ever since we were young, we had a pact that if one of us needed the other, we would be there for each other. Granted, TJ and I haven’t seen each other since we were thirteen, and we stopped our barrage of letters and emails when we were eighteen. However, we still send Christmas cards yearly, and in one of them, he did say, “If you’re ever in this part of the country, drop in.” I don’t think he meant it as literally as I took it. So, that’s how I ended up living on a remote ranch, in a log cabin with a man who didn’t seem quite as happy to see me as I thought he would be. But maybe it didn’t help that I showed up in my wedding dress, and everyone in town thought I was his new bride. Oops! This may not have been my best decision, but I’m hoping that Paradise Valley can help to mend my broken heart.
Is my life a Hallmark movie? Nope. I quit (okay, maybe got fired from) my corporate job in New York City and headed out to Montana to visit my best friend, Pippa, in Paradise Valley. It’s not exactly my number one vacation spot, but even I have to admit that it’s quite picturesque. Then I met Jack Marley. And when I say met, I mean, he almost ran me off the road in his big red pickup truck. Granted, I may have been looking at my GPS trying to find my destination, but still, he didn’t have to be so rude. I’m still fuming when I arrive at Pippa’s ranch. But my day was only about to get worse. Because guess who pulled up right behind me? Jack Marley himself. Turns out he’s Pippa’s boyfriend’s best friend. And my local host for my stay. What is this nightmare? I have to live with him now? Jack thinks he’s the hottest cowboy in Montana. He’s super proud of the fact that he’s a confirmed bachelor. I let him know that I doubt he’s single by choice, which I don’t really believe. I would never admit it to him, but he is kinda cute. I cannot stand him, but his smile does make my heart flutter. Sometimes. Now, he needs my help illustrating a children’s book he’s creating for his niece and nephew, and I start to see a softer side of him. However, that doesn’t mean I’m going to ignore the fact that he is definitely not the man for me. An enemies-to-lovers standalone sweet romance, set in Paradise Valley.
