The village of Little Shoreing was very small, but it did have its very own fire engine, built before automobiles were invented. The fire engine was looked after by old Sam Trolley, and was pulled by a pony called Toby. This is the story of how the unpleasant Mayor of Great Snoreing decided that the little fire engine was obsolete and must be replaced by a real motor-driven fire engine, and how Sam, Toby and the little fire engine proved that he was wrong. One of Graham Greene's first children's books, The Little Fire Engine was originally published many years ago, and is here reissued with new illustrations by Edward Ardizzone.
This book is part of the Picture Books series and is book #2 in the series.
