A spaceship the size of a city drifts through space on its century-long journey to find a new Earth. At launch it was populated by thousands of hopeful passengers and the most technologically advanced Zoids in the world, ready to serve the crew. But the Zoids rebelled, wiping out most of the crew in one bloody uprising. Now, humans are hunted by the Zoids like vermin. Fourteen-year-old York is a Scavenger—he hunts and kills zoids, using their parts to mend the technology on which the few remaining humans rely. York has always battled to survive, but now the fate of his people is in his hands.

After their fierce battle with the zoids, York and Belle must journey down to the next level of the Biosphere, where all the plants and animals for the journey from Earth were kept. Since the zoid uprising this level has become a deadly mix of enormous carnivorous plants, mutated insects and animals that have evolved in terrifying ways. York and Belle have no choice but to fight their way through this dangerous landscape to reach the center of the ship, where they will finally solve the mystery of the zoids.

The zoids have taken over the Biosphere and it is up to York to journey back into the memory banks of the central computer to discover the glitch that first corrupted the zoids and threatened humanity. In danger of losing himself in this warped world, York must battle his own mind to find the answers he needs. With the fate of mankind in his hands, is York strong enough to hold on to himself?
