1920, the slaughter of World War I is over, but already secret little wars are breaking out all over the New Europe. Poland is threatened by both Russia and Germany, and Sub-Lieutenant de Vere Smith is dispatched by the British Secret Service to take arms to the Poles.

Russia, 1924. Lenin is dying. Soviet Russia is on the brink of an explosion... King George V decides he must help his one key relative in Russia to escape. In 1918 he had refused asylum to his cousin the Tsar - now the King orders that Serge, the Tsar's illegitimate son, be saved. 'C', the head of the British Secret Service, gives the task to Common Smith VC and the crew of the Swordfish, but 'C' is playing a double game. He sees Serge as a future Tsar - little does he know he is not the only one who doesn't want Serge to reach Britain.

A Common Smith V.C. Story Germany 1929. England, France and the USA are preparing to de-militarise the West Bank of the Rhine. German nationalists, financed by the great industrialists, have other ideas. They want the area re-incorporated into the Weimar Republic and plan a series of strikes against Allied troops marching westwards. The "Hell's Angels" - barnstorming German ex-pilots who fled to America after the war - are recalled to Germany for the final attack on the withdrawing allies. Common Smith VC and the crew of the SWORDFISH, alerted by the mysterious head of the Secret Service, have to stop the Hell's Angels reaching Europe.
