Assault Troop Series This is the fourth in a series of 4 books about Assault Troop, the specially armoured infantry who precede the main advance to 'soften up' the opposition. Led by the rebellious Captain Corrigan, this particular troop form part of the 'Iron Division' during the 1944/45 European campaign.... “Cross the Elbe!” Corrigan exploded, sitting suddenly upright “By ourselves? Just the Assault Troop?” “That’s right,” Montgomery beamed, as if it were the most enjoyable treat in the world for a handful of men to tackle Germany’s last surviving natural barrier.’ The Third Reich has finally crumbled, but Captain Corrigan and his men have been assigned another mission, and this time it’s an unorthodox one, of Monty’s own devising. The price at stake is the future of western Europe: to protect it not only do they have to halt the might of the victorious Red Army which is rampaging across Germany, but they also have to face opposition from the German regular soldiers and — worst of all — the ‘werewolves’. Corrigan’s usual brief to his men of “Hit ’em fast and hit ’em hard — and no stopping for casualties” is all very well in cases of direct enemy contact, but the werewolves work by the still of night and are trained masters of ambush. Led by ‘the Fat One’ they are fanatical teenagers recruited from the Hitler Youth and ready to die for their Fuhrer. The members of the Assault Troop are experienced fighters to a man, but what they need now is nerves of steel.
